In JazzNotJazz, we’ve compiled a unique mix tape from a hundred years of jazz recordings, adding some meaningful and sometimes frivolous facts. As it’s also about The Soul of Jazz, there will definitely be some detours into affiliated styles. We have (irregularly) recurring elements like “Ellington Train Songs”, “Jazz Cameo’s”, “Keith Plays Miles”, “Jazz B4 ‘44” and “More is Better”.
In this episode, back to a real Jazz Cameo with Al Jarreau. Joining us is a giant in English Jazz, with his usual octet. Highlife and Afrobeat in a long composition. And as promised, the Guajira will have our attention twice! Once for a collaboration between two giants of Latino and Salsa music, the other for the man with an open mind in pop music: Paul Simon. We will finish with a song by Charles Mingus and a multi instrumentalist.
