Dutch jazz; a music project initiated by Michiel de Ruyter, with the first three albums featuring Dutch musicians recorded between 1955 and 1957. The first album comes together within a week, featuring two pieces each from four groups: the Tony Vos Quartet, the Wessel Ilcken Combo, the Rob Madna Trio, and the Stido Alstrøm Trio. The second album includes contributions from the same groups as well as a septet led by saxophonist Herman Schoonderwalt and a quartet led by pianist Frans Elsen. On the third and final album, Vos and Madna make their third appearance, each with a partly changed rhythm section. This time, Frans Elsen performs with a quintet, in which Herman Schoonderwalt once again makes an appearance. Schoonderwalt is also featured in Wessel Ilcken’s All Star group. Jazz Behind the Dikes Volume Three marks the debut of brothers Pim and Ruud Jacobs. Pianist Stido Alstrøm is present with a sextet.
