Evert Jan Nagtegaal and the Art of Song. Songs by Franz Liszt
Franz Liszt (1811-1886)
Lieder
Was the piano virtuoso also a great song composer?
Liszt left over eighty songs. Most of them are based on texts by German language authors: Schiller, Goethe, Rückert, Heine, Hebbel, etc. But he also used poetry in other languages: Victor Hugo, Alfred de Musset, Petrarca, Tennyson, Petöfi, etc.
In this hour, you will hear several of his songs, including the ‘Sonnetti di Petrarca’. Wonderful vocal parts, but of course lots of attention for the piano.
