The guitar in the last century XXXII

A monthly series on guitar music from the previous century, with each episode featuring a different guitar concert. In today’s episode: music from two American composers, Elliott Carter and George Crumb.

  • Elliott Carter (1908-2012) is known for his complex rhythms. They change constantly in his music and the instruments often play different rhythms at the same time. This makes his music very complicated to play.
  • George Crumb (1929-2022) experimented mainly with sounds and textures. He regularly uses special (percussion) instruments for these experiments, but he also wrote for classical guitar.
