A full hour of viola music is unique in itself! You can enjoy three masterpieces of the underrated child of classical music. The viola is often praised for its melancholic tone, and more often mocked for only being allowed to play accompanying motifs. That will not be the case for the next sixty minutes! The queen of the viola, Tabea Zimmermann leads you along.
First we will meet Max Reger, who composed exquisite suites in the style of Bach, but with a totally different sound. Than Russian pianist Kirill Gerstein will make an appareance and together with Tabea he will play the great sonata by Henri Vieuxtemps. In that piece, all aspect of the magnificent instrument are covered. To conclude, of course, a sonata by Brahms, op.120 no. 2. In our time, that piece is best known as a clarinet sonata, but Brahms has given his approval to both versions.
