Over a century after their creation in the vibrant Paris of the early 20th century, Radio Romantica features some delightful wind ensemble pieces, occasionally accompanied by piano. The Société de musique de chambre pour instruments à vent in the French capital played a major role in inspiring a surge of compositions for woodwinds. Additionally, various instrument makers made significant improvements to the instruments, leading the public to take them much more seriously.
You’ll hear music by Roussel, d’Indy, Caplet and Pierné, performed by the members of Viotta Ensemble, who as you may know are all members, or retired members, of the Concertgebouw orchestra.
