In 2004 John Ingram from Amerika hosted Not the Normal Shit radio. Every early Saturday morning I was confined via the internet to listen to the strangest things I had ever heard. Noise, avant-garde, experimental; all in a heap and I lapped it up.
Early 2006 John stopped and a gaping hole laid in front of me. Until I took a plunge and continued with the programme in 2007. Meanwhile a lot of music was available via Creative Common labels and especially the out of the ordinary was everywhere but…
What I missed was a home; a net label for those artists I met and thought were great. So in the summer of 2008 ‘Just not Normal’ was set up. The first artist on the net label was also called ‘Normal’ so a better start could not have happened. .
In March 2011 the radio programme discontinued permanently. The net label also stayed active until March 2011 and released 125 releases in total. That much can’t be handled in one go so even CC-radio has been split up in two parts. In this second part the net label does what it is good at and lives up to its name: Avant-garde, abstract and experimental: Just not Normal!
