Contemporary music from Harrison Birtwistle and Peter Schat
Harrison Birtwistle (photo) wrote a unique requiem in 2012. It wasn’t for the lamented or for the composer himself, but for an insect: the moth. The moth is not the most popular insect, with its unpredictable nocturnal fluttering, but Birtwistle says this is unfair, seeing the beauty in the moth, and so giving him the idea for The Moth Requiem. In today’s episode, also the Septet from Peter Schat, with whom Birtwistle kept in touch in the 1950s.
