De barokke geest in al zijn muzikale vormen.
In de zeventiende eeuw was het variëren op een thema een geliefd genre in de muziek. Vooral met dat thema in de bas, waar bovenstemmen dan over konden improviseren. En terwijl de componisten op het Europese vasteland zich uitleefden in chaconnes, passacailles en passo-e-mezza’s, componeerden de Engelsen hun grounds. Daar gaan we vandaag naar luisteren.
