The baroque spirit in all his musical shapes.
Jin Kim: pioneer of early music in South Korea
This episode introduces the South Korean baroque violinist Jin Kim, who studied at the University of Seoul and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA. She is the founder of the baroque ensemble Musica Glorifica, but mainly tours as soloist and concertmaster. As the pioneer of early music in South Korea, she organised international exchanges of musicians to introduce early music to her home country.
Jin Kim was very much influenced by Sigiswald Kuiken’s approach to early music. She studied with him in Belgium from 1987 until 1990 and was part of his ensemble La Petite Bande until 1993.
We will play you some works from two CDs of her: the first is called ‘Fantasia and Passacaglia’, the second is a 100% South Korean release, called Psalms for you.
