Music and thoughts of pianist Fred Hersch
An entire episode on American jazz pianist Fred Hersch.
His new solo CD ‘Silent, Listening’ was recently released on ECM, which prompted a series of solo concerts in Europe. Hersch will play in the Netherlands in autumn. Last month, Hersch played in Brussels, where I interviewed him.
Fred Hersch is appreciated for his subtle touch and his impressive pianism. He was mentor to many other famous jazz pianists. He studied in Boston under Jaki Byard, which gave him deep understanding of the history of the jazz piano. He has performed with musicians such as Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, Art Farmer and in Europa Toots Thielemans and our very own Michael Moore.
