Folk it Mediterranee higlights the musical richness of the Mediterranean.
Episode: Fabrizio De André (part II)
In this Folk It Mediterranee part 2, we continue our trilogy on Italian singer Fabrizio De André. The first part aired on March 22 and featured pieces from the early years of his career, between 1967 and 1970.
In part 2, we pick up with an old British ballad, Geordie, which De André released as a single in 1966. We conclude with two pieces from Le Nuvole (1990), showcasing his productive collaboration with Mauro Pagani.
Throughout his career, De André demonstrated his openness to collaboration, working with other artists such as Italians Massimo Bubola, Francesco De Gregori, and Mauro Pagani. He also created his own versions of songs by Leonard Cohen, Georges Brassens, and Bob Dylan. Even his ‘La canzone dell’amore perduto’ is noticeably inspired by Georg Philipp Telemann’s trumpet concerto in D (TWV51:D7). Because of this, critics accused him of lacking inspiration, but he himself was not particularly bothered. He once claimed that he wasn’t the only one; even someone like Bob Dylan received help. He was grateful to Dylan and saw it as a justification for his own approach. Despite this, De André is still considered one of Italy’s greatest singers.
