Folk it! (XL)

fri 27 feb 2009 20:00 hrs

Folk magazine about past and present, from freak folk to minstrels.

Today in Folk it! we pay attention to recent releases including modest Sephardic music from Bosnia by the duo Arkul. They play the music of the small Jewish community that ended up in Bosnia after they fled from medieval Spain. For this mini special we stay at the Balkans; today’s programme also centres around the Hungarian group Kolinda. The band caused a revival of Hongarian traditional music at the beginning of the 70s and grew into a worldfamous jazz-folk formation. On the other side of the Atlantic there’s also a lot of good music such as Devon Sproule who with her band brings together folk and alternative country. The Canadian singer Kate Campbell also released a new CD. She sings her compositions, inspired by gospel, folk and country, more penetrating than ever. And as if that wasn’t enough, but we don’t want to give away everything yet, we hereby promise you this will be complemented with beautiful findings and recent compositions.
