In this broadcast we will pay attention to the London BBC Radiophonic Workshop. After 20 years, they’ve released new work at the beginning of 2017. A full album, a cassette which is an intrinsic continuation of the album, and a CD fully devoted to cooperations, released via the Electronic Sound magazine, which is a coveted collector’s item by now.
So, ‘Burials in Several Earths’ is brand-new music by the legendary Radiophonic Workshop. Almost two decades after the workshop was dismantled, its original members Peter Howell, Roger Limb, Dr. Dick Mills, Paddy Kingsland and long time co-worker and composer Mark Ayres are together again, this time with guests Martyn Ware and Steve ‘Dub’ Jones. For this programme we have chosen two tracks from ‘Burials in Several Earths’, and one from the cassette ‘Everything You Can Imagine Is Real’.
BBC Radiophonic Workshop:
The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, one of the sound departments at the BBC, was founded in 1958 in order to produce effects and new music for radio. It was officially ended in March 1998, although a lot of the activities had already been outsourced in 1995. The original radiophonic workplace was domiciled at BBC’s Maida Vale Studios on Delaware Road, Maida Vale, London.
