Early Delights

A Sunday hour with early music goodies.

Lamento: a program for All Souls’ Day. Today we contemplate All Souls’ Day, a commemoration in Roman Catholicism for all the faithful departed. It takes place on the 2nd of November when relatives place flowers on the graves of their beloved ones.

The commemoration day for the departed originates from the Benedictine monastery of Cluny, where in 998 this day was first celebrated. The name All Souls’ Day started to be used in the thirteenth century.
