#531 RADIO REPORT FROM THE DISSIDENCE #2
Report #2: The Dew On The Spider Web – Chanderkhani Pass (Naggar-India, 2024, Part 2)
After a hard ascent on foot, I made a long recording of the deep silence and stillness of the mountains of the Chanderkhani pass during and after the rain: I shouted from afar to awaken the echoes of the wall of the dream. It sounds distant, almost inaudible, like an invitation to join the non-existence.
In this report, I invite you to surrender to the boredom of acoustic contemplation, when the expectation of listening to music is killed then beauty will appear.
Field recordings for this second report were made in Himachal Pradesh – India, in and around the village of Naggar and the Chanderkhani pass, between June and August 2024. Sounds: horse bells on the forest road, cicadas and rain, Murlidhar Krishna temple closing music, children playing, frogs, processional music, oblivion.
All sounds are one-take live recordings, no effects, no overdubs or overlays were applied, just small crossfades, equalizations and an intense process of selection and exposition to the live acoustic experiences during the recordings. Recorded and mixed by Sajjra Xhrs Galarreta. Spoken words by Galarreta. All were mixed in Pokhara (Nepal) in November, 2024 under Dengue effects.
More on dissidence (taken from different correspondences with friends about this podcast project):
I make field recordings only when I feel that a situation has a strong energy (in an acoustic and synaesthetic sense), even when it is a silent situation. I do not record with the thought of reprocessing the sound electronically later. In this way, the experience becomes a kind of final situation. It is an act of “composing” from life and of “being composed” also by life. I am not motivated by any technical approach as what kind of “recorder” or “mics” I use, this is just part of the context when I start making recordings. Anyway technical conditions and experiments can also generate interesting nuances but they are not a fundamental aspect in this case. Besides this, it’s more about making things than “getting inspired”.
I have many different projects that involve, more or less, different types of field recordings. In this case for “Radio Report from The Dissidence”, I was prompted by a revelation I’ve had lately: all these years, due to migratory, geopolitical, emotional and vital issues, I am living in constant movement in a kind of “mobile dissident state”. And since I sometimes end up landing in places where I can’t give workshops, perform, “work for money”, etc , I came up with the idea of making a podcast with acoustic-synthetic testimonies of the experiences to which I am exposed for the aforementioned reasons. Sometimes it is sublime, sometimes not, but always vital. This also has to do with this unpostponable call to be transfigured and to transfigure everything.
