In 2003 we regularly attended the concert series Concerten Tot en Met in Amsterdam.
Around the turn of the century, Amsterdam decided to organize the series Concerten Tot en Met. The aim was to present music from the past century, particularly its last decades, as well as the first music of the new century. Various styles were featured; at Concert A, you could expect something entirely different from what awaited you at Concert B.
Although the concerts took place in small music venues such as the Posthoornkerk and the Bethaniënklooster, the series was a success, spanning over forty installments. Today, we’ll present three Concerten Tot en Met from 2003. From Concert No. XXXIX, you’ll hear two virtuosic solo pieces of very different styles. Concert XL is entirely devoted to the melodic mathematics of American composer Tom Johnson. In Concert XLII features piano music by French composer Tristan Murail, one of the pioneers of spectral music. So, there’s something for everyone.
