In 1991, like many other years, we recorded a lot at the Bethaniënklooster (Convent of Bethany). Today we present a small selection.
We are called the Concertzender because we record concerts: live performances with an audience present, where anything can go wrong, where you may hear coughing or shuffling, and where tomorrow, the music may sound a little different.
An exception to this is the recording sessions we did in the Bethaniënklooster. During our recording sessions in this former convent in Amsterdam, we covered a wide range of music genres: early music, but also music by living composers who sometimes came to perform their own works. The sessions were usually shorter than a real concert; at times we’d wrap it up in just half an hour.
In this episode we will enjoy two recording sessions. First we will hear violinist Berent Korfer perform music by Bach, Mozart and Ysaÿe, sometimes accompanied by pianist Kana Yamaguchi. Then we will hear pianist Mariette Petkova perform Beethoven’s Sonata opus 109 (a beautiful piece that all too often gets overshadowed by the Hammerklavier Sonata and Sonata opus 111), a Sonata by Bartók and Schumann’s Fantasie Opus 17.
