Today, the first segment of Concertzender Live Classical will deliver a milestone from piano literature. Bernd Brackman plays Ludwig van Beethoven’s incredibly complicated and, for their time progressive, last three piano sonatas.
After Beethoven’s death, it took several generations before people came to understand this music. To us, it is cut-and-dried, just like Beethoven’s 2nd symphony. Note that you will listen to it in the version for piano trio performed by the unsurpassed Osiris Trio. The arrangement is the work of Ferdinand Ries, a close friend of Beethoven. For an encore, a piece from Schumann’s piano quartet.
