Louis Hayes / Junior Cook Quintet in Hamburg
In 1972, drummer Louis Hayes (1937) formed his own quintet and, after a short period of time, he began to lead it together with tenor saxophonist Junior Cook (1934-’92). The hardbop quintet succesfully toured Europe in 1976 and played for instance in the Hamburg jazz club Onkel PÖ’s Carnegie Hall. This performance was recorded by the NDR and was broadcast on the radio. This year, the recordings were released as a double CD. In today’s programme, you will hear some long pieces of this concert which took place in March 1976.
