The Concertzender is one of the three nominations for a prestigious Dutch radio award (Zilveren Reissmicrofoon 2024).
The jury gave the following reasons for nominating the Concertzender:
“The Concertzender has continued to broadcast for four decades, despite all the challenges it has faced in that period. It started in 1982 as a public local radio station in Amsterdam, then expanded to be active nationally from the mid-1990s. While other broadcasters and theme stations in the media landscape disappeared, the Concertzender carried on strongly. The station features a wide range of music styles, from classical to world music and from jazz to pop, everything far off the beaten track. In 2009, the Concertzender again became a local broadcaster in Amsterdam, completely dependant on volunteers, but with a loyal base of listeners throughout the Netherlands. This succes is precisely because the Concertzender offers exceptional music that cannot be heard on any other media – public or commercial. The Concertzender is and remains of great cultural importance.”
The presentation of certificates to all the nominees and the announcement of the winner of this year’s award takes place on June 13.
