In Concertzender Live on Friday 14th June, the Utrecht company Camerata Trajectina is in the spotlight. Reason: the ensemble will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2024!
Camerata Trajectina celebrated their anniversary with a tour at the beginning of 2024, and a special anniversary programme will be played on September 1st, 2024 during the Early Music Festival in Utrecht.
Camerata Trajectina was founded in 1974 as an initiative of two Utrecht Musicology students: Jan Nuchelmans (later founder of the Early Music Festival) and early music specialist Jos van Veldhoven. Lutenist and musicologist Louis Peter Grijp (1954-2016) soon became the artistic director of the ensemble. Under his leadership, approximately 40 LPs and CDs were released with old Dutch songs.
They won an Edison twice.
Camerata Trajectina has been bringing Dutch history to life since its inception. The ensemble specialized in music from the 16th and 17th centuries. The group is pretty much the musical memory of the Netherlands.
The first recording to be heard in Concertzender Live is from that anniversary tour, part of the Early Music Season. The ensemble followed Joannes Stalpart van der Wiele on his Italian journey: Italian madrigals by Orlando di Lasso and Luca Marenzio, among others, are set to Van der Wiele’s flowery and ingenious Dutch texts.
The second recording was made during the Festival De Muze van Zuid, on May 22, 2016 in the Vondelkerk in Amsterdam. Then Camerata Trajectina presented Dutch beggars’ songs from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Broadcast: Friday June 14, 2024, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
