Episode 13: Dutch Delta Sounds
Old as new: Santana’s first performance on the European continent! It was 26 June, 1970 when their Afro-Latin-rock overwhelmed the audience at Kralingen, the Dutch Pop Festival in Rotterdam. The raw recordings of that concert recently appeared on vinyl coinciding with the premiere of the documentary Holland Pop 1970 (directed by Ferry Ronteltap).
Speaking of festivals, Mali’s music ambassador par excellence Salif Keita will perform on 7 July at the 35th edition of the Afrika Festival in Hertme. The day before, Bamba Wassoulou Groove, a Malian band seamlessly blending tradition with modernity, performed cativatingly. They will appear again a weekend later at North Sea Jazz, alongside the Amsterdam Klezmer Band, presenting their latest album Bomba Pop. Alongside surprising new albums from Cacha Mundinho, Sinta Wullur, Natacha Rogers, Yin Yin, and Pete Philly & Perquisite- an episode filled with contemporary Dutch Delta Sounds.
