Annette Hanshaw (1901-1985) was one of the first popular jazz singers. During the 20s and 30s, she was at the top in the USA and in England alongside colleagues such as Ethel Waters, Bessie Smith and the Boswell Sisters. But in the 30s she grew tired of it all.
